A Passion for Endodontics

Dr. Richard Sedwick, endodontist at East Coast Endodontics.

Education:

Dr. Richard Sedwick earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences at Brigham Young University before returning to his home state. Dr. Sedwick completed his dental training at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received a  Doctors of Dental Surgery in 2011.  Dr. Sedwick chose to return to VCU and complete his residency in Advanced Education in Endodontics and received his Master’s of Science in Dentistry in 2018. He also served as the chief resident during his second year.

Experience

While practicing as a general dentist for 5 years in both Richmond and Staunton, Virginia, Dr. Sedwick developed a passion for endodontics. He found helping patients eliminate pain while saving their teeth incredibly rewarding. After receiving his masters, Dr. Sedwick joined the East Coast Endodontics team in July of 2018.

Philanthropy and Community Involvement

Dr. Sedwick has traveled to Guatemala to perform apical surgeries; participated in Missions of Mercy Projects in southwestern Virginia – performing endodontic services to those who would otherwise not be able to save their natural dentition; and volunteers at VCU School of Dentistry to help teach the dental students and endodontic residents.

Awards and Recognitions Education:

Dr. Sedwick won an AAE/DENTSPLY resident award at the 2018 American Association of Endodontists meeting for his research on Outcomes of Revascularization Therapy at VCU.

Personal Life:

Dr. Sedwick is excited to continue calling the Richmond area home. When not treating patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and their four beautiful children. They enjoy hiking, swimming, soccer, and going to the movies; and, if Dr. Sedwick has some alone time, he enjoys reading a good book.
